Home Secretary Priti Patel’s £500K taxpayer-funded PR blitz aims to make you believe encryption is dangerous, but the opposite is true. Encryption keeps your information and transactions safe from criminals. It ensures the private messages you share with friends and family stay private.
Plans within the Online Safety Bill require ALL online speech to be monitored, including your private conversations with friends and family. Companies like Whatsapp and Signal will be required by law to break encryption so they can scan and censor your messages.
But if Priti Patel and the UK Government can access your private messages, that means scammers, hackers and foreign governments can too. If they get their way, billions of personal messages will be ready to be hacked, sold and exploited.
The Government’s expensive anti-encryption campaign is dead wrong. Even the UK privacy watchdog, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), has warned that Patel’s plans put “everyone at risk”, including children.
