Musing of a Cyberpunk

consequences

consequences

We work, they tell us it is good for us, and if we are lucky it is, or it at least feels like it is. But normally we are just feeding the rich man’s mongrels.

We get told you need to be more productive. And mindful at the same time. It is easy to be clear of mind when you live outside of modernity. It takes every piece of you.

It never used to be this way. Well. it was different, not better.

There is nothing trickling down. Other than the piss down his lordship’s trousers. He got out in time. And with a bare faced lie he’ll be back when the smoke blows over. Another one with blood on his hands, and seemingly proud of it.

Altruism is a dirty word, it could lead to austerity if you believe the right press.

We take our chances lightly. And yet spout out proverbs as if they mean something. As if anyone was listening. I don’t want to get past those pearly gates if it’s your lot on the other side.

What if there is no purpose? What then? What is the consequence? Do consequences lose all of their power? It is worth contemplating.

If you are only working to try and pay the bills, in this world that is enough, surely. Yeah, if you can get better and it even is something you dreamed of, then fucking go for it, you have to. But don’t make those of us who do what we have to do because we have to do it feel bad for not being privileged enough to be able to give it all up, because there would be… consequences.

But even though you are only just about making it to provide and contribute your share at the table. But you are working all of the hours that god sends and people just ain't getting it, thinking you are just ghosting them. They, as in the ones that watch us, will tell you that it isn’t enough. You need to be doing more. Always.

Mouths to feed. Bodies to keep warm, sheltered, and away from harm. But their minds we leave right open. Open to outside influence, and worse that of the state, big business… and brainfucked by big tech before they are barely out of nappies.

But it is easier to not challenge it. Because you can’t win. And you will only be cast as the baddy by all parties. For trying to protect your child from their influence.

It trickles up not down. It has been since mad convinced man to buy things he didn’t need. But at least there was some art in that. Now it is down to the data scientists to give you the same answers but dress in ones and zeros.

Paint by numbers is for five-year-olds and accountants. But that becomes only who we are. By their interpretation of the mathematics behind it, we are still in with a chance. But they were never very good at doing the maths. They thought too much.

We know it when we feel it. It is like it had never been lost to us all along. But we seldom really know who we are, until we do. And then it can go either way.  Pull on that thread it might just lead you somewhere, if not good, better.
