Try the Cognitive Shield, a Free AI tool I have created to help you analyse the framing, bias, and persuasive techniques being used in written media, blogs, and social posts as well as the psychographic and behavioral profiles of the target audience and author.

it is also a great writing aid to analyze our own content

Like I say, it is free. Give it a try. You just need a Google account for it to work as I used Gemini to create it.

deconstruct influence

My previous analyses on this platform have examined two separate approaches to breaking down the framing and intent in a post by Trump concerning the 2020 election. Here, I will detail the methodology of the Psychoanalytic Engine prompt used in those breakdowns. First, however, I must clarify my purpose. This exercise extends far beyond one individual. Trump himself presents such a transparent subject for behavioural and psychoanalytic examination that the process borders on trivial. Most people recognise his persona clearly; their responses—whether to dismiss, tolerate, or oppose him—stem largely from political identity.

My objective is to dissect the language, framing, and intent signals within written media. Professionally, as a marketer and strategist, I view political messaging and campaigning through the lens of marketing, with a specific focus on behavioural insights, trigger points and nudges towards desired outcomes.

It is essential to analyse the structure and purpose of behavioural communications in all their forms—to comprehend, deconstruct, and educate—so we may shield ourselves and vulnerable communities from undue influence and manipulation into choices against their or society’s welfare. The tactics that propelled Trump to power and eroded democratic norms in the U.S. have been exported by figures like Steve Bannon, achieving alarming success globally. When combined with data science, AI, behavioral profiling, and foreign interference—notably from Russia—the threat to global stability and freedom becomes starkly evident.

That is why I provide tools such as The Cognitive Shield and The Psychoanalytic Engine free of charge, and why I continue refining them. Understanding their strategies enables us to dismantle them—or at least fortify our critical thinking.

Trump is merely the beginning. Others, like Farage—backed by the same far-right networks—will follow.

To grasp how this archetype of an external enemy is constructed across public statements, we must track how singular grievances are amalgamated into a unified, existential danger. Through rallies, social media, and interviews, a consistent psychological framework is deployed—one engineered to activate fear, defend identity, and cultivate collective paranoia.

MODULE 1: Narrative Arc & Micro-Structure of Enemy Construction

  • The Aggregated Archetype Arc: Across speeches, the enemy sequence consistently moves from an initial Invasion/Infiltration (external body) to an Institutional Betrayal (internal corruptors), escalating toward Existential Destruction, before ending with a demand for Total Absolute Sovereign Action.
  • Pacing & Tension Dynamics: Public statements utilize rapid, alternating bursts of threat inflation ("they’re destroying our country", "vicious, radical left lunatics") interspersed with absolute moral clarity ("we have no choice", "only I can fix it"). This rhythm accelerates emotional arousal while preventing intellectual pause.

MODULE 2: Subtext & Hidden Intent

  • Character Desires (Unspoken): The adversary is portrayed as desiring absolute control and destruction. However, subtextually, the writer frames the adversary as an indispensable counter-weight: without a terrifying, omnipotent enemy archetype, the writer's identity as the indispensable "protector/savior" loses its symbolic authority.
  • Authorial Intent: The overarching goal is identity fusion. By positioning the enemy as an existential threat to the reader's identity, physical safety, and culture, the author eliminates middle ground, transforming political choice into a survival obligation.

MODULE 3: Psychoanalytic Reading (Freud & Lacan)

  • Freudian Lens (Splitting & Paranoid Projection): The enemy is constructed through psychic splitting—an infantile defense mechanism where all bad, forbidden, or dangerous qualities are fully projected outward. Systemic corruption, aggression, and fraud are attributed exclusively to the target group, preserving the ego’s complete internal purity.
  • Lacanian Lens (The "Big Other" & The Void): The enemy functions as the sinister "Big Other"—an omnipresent, hidden force behind political and legal institutions. The enemy becomes the explanation for why the paradise/greatness is currently lacking (the missing objet petit a). If only the "enemy within" is removed, the imagined past harmony will naturally return.
  • The Writer’s Neurosis: Fixation on persecutory ideation and narcissistic preservation. Any institutional challenge or electoral defeat cannot be processed as a normal outcome; it must be reframed as a conspiracy of the enemy to prevent complete collapse of self-esteem.

MODULE 4: Neurolinguistic & Hypnotic Architecture

  • De-individuation & Nominalization: Enemies are rarely framed as individuals with complex motives; instead, they are rendered as sweeping nominalizations—"the radical left machine", "corrupt cronies", "the enemy from within". This linguistically strips the target of humanity and complexity.
  • Somatic Threat Metaphors: Public statements heavily utilize bio-somatic metaphors—describing opponents or undocumented populations using terms of invasion, poison, or contagion. These metaphors directly tap into subconscious disgust mechanisms, bypassing critical evaluation to trigger evolutionary protective responses.

MODULE 5: Deep Psychological Profiling of the Enemy Construction

  • Psychographic Archetype of the "Enemy": Constructed as a dual-natured entity—simultaneously weak and incompetent ("sleepy", "crooked") yet omnipotent and insidious ("smart and vicious", "far bigger than Joe or Kamala"). This paradox is a hallmark of authoritarian enemy-building, allowing supporters to feel superior while remaining perpetually terrified.
  • Behavioral Function for the Audience: The archetype grants the audience moral absolution. Because the enemy is framed as breaking all laws and ethical norms, any extraordinary measure taken by the protagonist or supporters becomes an act of necessary self-defense rather than aggression.

How Trump's rhetoric compares to historic fascist language

This analysis of how public rhetoric constructs internal and external political opponents as existential threats provides direct historical and psychoanalytic context for the writer's psychological framework.
